Seems Santa isn`t all we were led to believe and even he has skeletons in his closet. What I liked most was you never were sure who was the hero and who was the villian. But as the story progressed the more I was into it. I am coming to take back what is mine, to take back. You have sung your last ho, ho, ho, for I am coming for your head. At first I wasn`t sure about the character of Krampus. The best way I can describe it may be Stephen King meets Quinton Tarantino. After centuries of being imprisioned he escapes to take the world back to the old ways of Yule, before Santa Clause and Christianity has turned it into Christmas and what we know of it today. It`s about an obscure pagan named Krampus who is still celebrated in certain parts of the world today. This was one of the more interesting books I`ve read in awhile. Just finished reading "Krampus The Yule Lord" by Brom. ![]() 6/7/2023 0 Comments White fang full book![]() ![]() The opening scene is masterfully written, but does not quite fit.Part II of the novel is a complete break from Part I, as the story is now told from the perspective of the she-wolf. It is difficult to understand why Jack London wrote the novel this way. Henry drops out of the novel, and the scene shifts to the wolf pack and the birth of White Fang. At the last moment he is rescued as a search party looking for the dead body Henry and Bill were transporting. ![]() Henry literally climbs into the fire and begins hurling brands from the fire at the encircling wolves. Finally, one night, the wolves become so brazen that they come right up to the fire to collect their dinner. ![]() Henry is left alone and night after night he feels the wolves coming closer and closer. Henry hears three shots, but Bill does not return. Scared and frustrated, Bill decides one morning to go out with his rifle and three remaining cartridges. London paints quite a portrait of the two men sitting around the campfire, seeing only the eyes of the wolves reflecting the light from the fire. ![]() At night, the dogs are individually lured to their deaths by a she-wolf. Two men, Bill and Henry, with a team of six dogs pulling a sled on which is strapped a coffin, are fleeing down a frozen waterway, a wolf pack in pursuit. Description: White Fang opens with a beautifully detailed picture of the Yukon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Parents Cannot Distinguish Meaning in a Newborn’s Cries (I Disagree) I agree with Hogg and Karp that your baby does not cry in order to manipulate you. I like to point this out because I often hear parents refer to their babies this way (See Combating Babywise Myths #6: BW parents call their kids words like “manipulative”). The Baby Whisperer, Tracy Hogg, discusses this. I have mentioned this a few times in various posts. In Chapter 2, Karp discusses crying and points out that a baby’s cries are not manipulative (page 21). He says that a mildly fussy baby can be soothed by using one of these methods, but a really fussy, or colicky, baby needs all five together in his recipe to create the “Cuddle Cure.” Crying Isn’t Manipulative Karp has 5 S’s to use to calm a fussy baby: He discusses the fourth trimester later on in the book, so I will save more thoughts for then. I have heard the first three months called this before, and I agree that it is a fair lable for those first three months. In chapter 1, Karp mentions the “4 th trimester.” The 4 th trimester refers to the first three months of a baby’s life.
